Curriculum

Throughout KG and Primary children have main class teachers who take the children through the core learning of our curriculum. In addition, they are given classes by specialist teachers in the Creative Arts: Music and Art.

KG are taught exclusively in Spanish to embed the language in their developmental journey. KG follows the “Blossom Foundations of Learning” a solid start to a child’s educational journey

Year 1 and early Primary: from Year 1 onwards, the main language of instruction is English; children are taught numeracy and literacy both discreetly and through the project-based learning curriculum. In addition, children are given lessons in Spanish to continue their language acquisition and consolidation.

Middle and Upper Primary follows a broad and flexible curriculum which takes the best practice in teaching & learning styles from a wide range of systems; it is cohesively delivered in Project-Based Learning topics in which literacy and numeracy are embedded. However, these skills are also taught discreetly. In addition, the students are taught by subject specialists in the Arts and Spanish.

Our oldest students are able to choose a range of IGCSE subjects and we also offer the International BTEC vocational courses in Music and Creative Media at post 16.

Academics

Educational Overview

The Blossom International School grew out of The Orange Tree project and has been evolving since 2018. Our main and unique approach is through project-based learning throughout Primary and early secondary. This inter-disciplinary method does not impose hierarchical value on subjects or learning styles. We value every child’s individual way of seeing the world and of learning. The ‘soft’ skills of communication and reflection are essential and above all, we hope to foster every child’s confidence which is key to all types of learning.

Learning Opportunities

Project-Based Learning: Enables learners to make connections across learning through exploring clear and relevant links across the curriculum, supporting children to apply what they have learned in new and different ways.
Creative Opportunities: Because we value the skills and confidence which the creative subjects nurture, we have more time in our curriculum for Music, Art, and Drama.
Outdoor Learning: Can take place anywhere from school grounds to local green spaces. Being outdoors is an essential part of growing up and leading a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
Digital Technologies: We will enhance learning and teaching and equip our children with the digital skills they need. However, we do not allow individual devices to be used unless they are a part of supervised teaching & learning.
Cooperative Learning: The use of small groups ensures that children can work together to support their own and each other’s learning.
